2009 AMAZON LODGE/GALAPAGOS EXPEDITION

Your journey begins in South America when you arrive in Quito, Ecuador. After a good nights sleep at a luxury hotel we will fly to Amazonian Ecuador. We will be greeted by our local bilingual guide and travel by dug out canoe up river to our Eco-lodge consisting of 10 private cabanas. (4 days /3 nights) We will photograph the most colorful birds in the world including varieties of parrots, parakeets and macaws from blinds and canopy tower platforms. Other wildlife possibilities include 11 species of monkeys, 150lb giant river otters, tapir, peccary, potoos, hoatzins and hopefully the elusive jaguar or puma. After this Amazonian adventure, we will continue onward to the coast to one of the most impressive places on earth, the Enchanted Isles of the Galapagos!

When was the last time you went Island Hopping?

Enjoy your expedition now by sea on a newly built, 14 guest, private yacht cruising the Galapagos Islands with Daniel J. Cox. This marine tropical ecosystem provides the opportunity to get up close and personal with a variety of unique birds including the infamous blue-footed boobies, great frigate birds and the Galapagos penguin. Other wildlife include iguanas, sea lions and aquatic life with eye-catching colors.

If you are only going to go to the Galapagos once in your life do it right! You could do this trip on a 50-100+ person ship but why? Join us on a private luxury yacht!

IMPORTANT:
This is our standard National Park Service-approved itinerary. We are scheduled to go on land daily at 9am and 3pm. We are asking permission to have earlier arrivals on the Islands. Due to strict regulations we are not sure if this will be possible. Time spent at each site and which Islands we may visit could be altered or changed according to environmental conditions i.e. wildlife, weather etc. These changes should be decided on board by the captain and guide.

Recommendations

February, March and April are considered the Hot Season in the Galapagos, which is the best time to visit. The Islands are almost fully green (vegetation) due to more humidity. The water temperatures are a balmy 77F-82F which allows snorkeling without a wet suit. Generally clear with good visibility will give you the opportunity to view the marine tropical ecosystem beneath. There is virtually an absence of south-east trade winds which implies calm waters within the Islands.

A couple hightlights during the month of February include the Marine Iguanas with eye-catching colors and nesting behavior.Great Frigate birds have engaged in full courtship and nesting. The males will display their scarlet-red gular pouches as they try to attract a passing female.
